(More customer reviews)I breastfeed 90% of the time, only once in a while does my baby (almost 3 months old now) get a bottle - either pumped milk or formula. I really wanted to find a nipple that would come closest to how the breast is shaped and how the baby sucks at the breast. At first I was using the Avent bottles/nipples that came with the breast pump (the pump - though manual - is great) but I was very unhappy with the way the nipple was shaped - most unlike a woman's breasts! And, the milk flowed very quickly, my baby drained the bottle too soon and that didn't seem right. And sometimes my baby would do a clicking sound when nursing from that bottle, and then she started doing the same at my breast, which would break the latch.
So then I bought Breastflow, and yes, it truly is like the breast - the baby does have to latch on (almost). And once latched on, the nipple's wide part gets squashed just a little, exactly in the way I have observed my breast to do when my baby is suckling with gusto. Baby's mouth remains open in the exact same way as when she has a really good latch on my breast. And the flow is also good - not too fast, not too slow. No problems with the clicking sound either. For the initial few seconds, baby has to work a little harder to get the milk from the inner nipple to the outer one, and I think that's what happens at the breast as well - initially the baby sucks a little harder to get the milk to flow.
We have been using it for two months now and I am very happy with the product. I would recommend it to everyone, especially those who mostly breastfeed!
